Is the United States a Christian Nation?  While much has been made about our own Presidents comments to the contrary, the bigger question would have to be have Christians lost their influence? Sadly we would have to say yes. In my own lifetime prayer has been removed from school, abortion has been legalized,  same sex marriages promoted and the moral fiber of the nation has eroded to new lows. As a young boy I can remember stores closed on Sundays, school and businesses closed for Good Friday, and even a local network TV station that started and finished its broadcasting days with “Blessed is the Nation who God is the Lord – Psalms 33:12”.

Unfortunately Christians have allowed political correctness, liberalism and general indifference to push us to the back seat. While our nation may not have been established as a Christian nation, no one can argue that it was not influenced by Christian principles and ideas. The very basis of law stems from the Ten Commandments and many of our prestigious universities were established as religious institutions. Even outsiders recognized religion’s effect on the nation. The French Historian/Philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville while visiting the United States in the earlier 1800’s has been attributed to saying “American is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great”.

Is it just coincidence that our nation’s prosperity sinks lower and lower as does our moral compass? I think not. This is why more than even the Bible needs to be an influence in our society. God’s word gives us the blueprint to living a successful life. Honoring our parents, recognizing  the sanctity of life, obeying leadership, giving our best – how can these things not be relevant in today’s world? With so much information at our fingertips, we have lost the connection to the most important source of information – the Bible. I recently saw a church sign that summarized it best, “get off of Facebook and get into the Faithbook!”.  Support Bible Nation Society and its mission to return the Bible to its rightful place in our nation.
